Python tutoring in the GTA

Python tutoring for GTA CS students

Get unstuck on functions, loops, lists, dictionaries, recursion, testing, file I/O, and assignment debugging without copying generated code you cannot explain.

Free problem triage first. Then focused 1:1 tutoring at $40 CAD/hour, no contract.

Online for students in Canada and the US · 500+ students helped · 8+ years teaching

Bring the prompt, starter files, error message, or midterm topic. We trace what the code is doing, find the concept gap, and turn it into a plan you can use this week.

Sound familiar?

The code works after AI edits it, but you cannot explain the loop, list, or function state.

You understand lecture examples but freeze when a CSC108, CSC148, or CPS109 assignment asks you to combine ideas.

A small Python error is blocking the whole assignment and the deadline is getting close.

How the triage actually runs

  1. 1

    You bring the problem

Send the course, deadline, and the assignment, error, or exam topic that has you stuck.

  2. 2

I reply with a next step

I review the details and tell you whether a focused tutoring session is the right fit.

  3. 3

    We work through it together

In a paid 1:1 session, we work on your code or topic and leave with a practice plan.

Academic integrity stays clean: I help you debug, trace, and understand your own work. I do not write submissions for you.

What we fix first

The triage is not random tutoring. It is a diagnosis and a focused repair plan.

Loop and function tracing

Assignment debugging

Lists, dictionaries, and files

Midterm style practice

What better looks like

  • Trace Python variables, lists, dictionaries, loops, and function calls by hand.
  • Debug assignment code without guessing or rewriting everything.
  • Prepare for Python quizzes and exams with blank-file practice.

Questions

Can you help with Python if I am in CSC108, CSC148, or CPS109?

Yes. Those courses usually need a mix of syntax, tracing, problem decomposition, testing, and confidence writing code without autocomplete doing all the thinking.

Can you just fix my Python assignment?

I help you debug and understand it. The goal is that you can explain the code, finish the assignment ethically, and not get stuck on the same pattern next week.
