A closed book exam is the first. A technical interview is the second, and it is far less forgiving, because someone is watching while it happens.
No second tab. No autocomplete. No prompt to rewrite what you typed. You start from a blank screen while someone watches how you think. If AI has been doing the starting for you, the long pause before your first line is the part they remember.
Why that data structure. What happens on empty input. What this costs once the list gets long. Interviewers are not grading the answer on its own, they are checking whether you understand the thing you just wrote.
You keep using AI to prepare. You just stop needing it in the room.
Every project on your resume is a set of questions you have agreed to answer.
If AI wrote most of it, this is usually where the conversation stalls. Not because the project is bad, but because it is hard to defend work you did not really do. Interviewers know this now, and they ask a third and a fourth question specifically to find out.
So we go through your repositories together. You walk through each project out loud, I ask what an interviewer would ask, and we mark every place you run out of answers. Then you either rebuild that piece until you understand it, or it comes off the resume. Both beat finding out on the call. None of this makes you a fraud, it makes you a candidate in 2026.
